Student Conduct  

  • Students are expected to conduct themselves, in person and online, in a manner that brings credit to themselves and their schools. 
  • Treat other competitors with respect at all times. 

DISQUALIFICATION: Removal of an entry from the competition. A project may be disqualified from the contest on three grounds: 

1. Plagiarizing all or part of the NHD project. Please note that failing to give proper credit is plagiarism. 

2. Reusing, individually or as a group, a project (or research from a project) from a previous year, or entering a project in multiple contests or entry categories within a contest year. 

3. Tampering with any part of the project of another student.  

  

Student Registration and Submission Instructions

Exhibits Students are responsible for submitting an Exhibit that meets the NHD Category Rules (pg 30-32) & for making sure that all parts of the project - Size, Artifacts, Media, Exhibit Documents, Process Paper, & Annotated Bibliography meet the rules and guidelines. We will not be accepting virtual Exhibits this year in 2024. All paper files associated with the project need to be uploaded by Monday, February 26, 2024 to the student account in Zfairs

Performances: Students are responsible for submitting an Exhibit that meets the NHD Category Rules (pg 25-26) Students will perform live for judges on the date of the In-Person Contest for Baltimore History Day. To help ensure that any student who may have an emergency and not be able to attend the day of the contest will not be disqualified we are still asking that a video file of the student Performance should be uploaded via Google Form (click here for the form). Students need to make sure that all parts of the project - Title, Script, Process Paper, & Annotated Bibliography are compiled into one PDF document. The video file of your performance must also be uploaded to the "LINK" field during your registration. MP4 (in an open-access link), Vimeo, and YouTube files are all acceptable. You need access to a personal Google account (non-BCPSS student account) to complete the form. If you cannot access any Google account, please let your teacher know.  


Papers: Students are responsible for submitting a Paper that meets the NHD Category Rules (pg 22-24). Students need to make sure that all parts of the project - Title, Research Paper, Process Paper (now needed in this category), & Annotated Bibliography are compiled into one PDF document. All paper files need to be uploaded by Monday, February 26, 2024 to the student account in Zfairs.

Websites: Students are responsible for submitting a Website that meets the NHD Category Rules (pg 33-36). All websites must be completed with your registration by 4:00 PM on Friday, March 1, 2024. All websites must be created in NHD WebCentral - no other formats will be eligible for this contest. Websites will be locked for editing at 12:00 AM (Midnight) on March 2, 2024. Students need to make sure that all parts of the project - Title, Script, Process Paper, & Annotated Bibliography are compiled into one PDF document.

Documentaries: Students are responsible for submitting a Documentary that meets the NHD Category Rules (pg 27-29) Documentary files should be uploaded via Google Form (click here for the form) by 4:00 PM on Friday, March 1, 2024. The video file of your performance must also be uploaded to the "LINK" field during your registration. MP4 (in an open-access link), Vimeo, and Youtube files are all acceptable. You need access to a personal Google account (non-BCPSS student account) to complete the form. If you cannot access any Google account, please let your teacher know.  

All project paperwork must be uploaded with your registration by 4:00 PM on Monday, February 26, 2024. At that time, registration will close. The 2023-24 Baltimore City History Day Contest is returning to IN-PERSON! 

This is subject to change based on Baltimore City School District and City health updates. 

 


 

Contest Schedule

Saturday- March 9, 2024

Patterson High School - 100 Kane St, Baltimore, MD 21224

Doors will open at 8:00am 

Judging will take place from 9:00am - 12:00pm 

Awards Ceremony will be held in the Patterson HS Auditorim at 2:00 pm on March 9th following adjudication

 


Personal Property Disclaimer: Personal belongings brought to the competition are the sole responsibility of the owner. All participants must keep their belongings in their possession at all times on the day of the contest. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Historical Quality: 60%

  • Historical Accuracy
  • Historical Context
  • Shows Analysis & Interpretation
  • Uses available primary sources
  • Wide Research
  • Balanced Research

Relation to Theme: 20%

  • Clearly relates topic to theme
  • Demonsrates significance of topic in history and draws conclusions

Clarity of Presentation: 20%

  • Project and written materials are original, clear, appropriate, organized, and articulate
  • Project is organized; visual impact is appropriate to topic
